Brembo’s brake caliper for the Formula E World Championship cars has been recognised with the most prestigious design award in the world, conceived by Gio Ponti.
Brembo has won the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award for its Formula E brake caliper.
The Compasso d’Oro prize was presented to Alberto Bombassei, President of Brembo, during the award ceremony held at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.
Now in its 26th edition, the Compasso d’Oro is the equivalent of an Academy Award to Italian designers. The prize is organised every two years by ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale), the industrial design association that for over 60 years has been selecting and celebrating the best ‘Made in Italy’ creations.
“It's a great honour, for me and my whole team,” said Alberto Bombassei, President of Brembo, on receiving the Compasso d’Oro. “This is one of the finest and most beautiful moments of my long business career. It's an acknowledgement of Brembo's ability to bring Italian expertise to the highest levels: excellence that combines creativity, design and technology, and that allows us to manufacture products that bring together aesthetics and a love of beauty, as well as outstanding quality. Our culture has always led us to create brakes with a distinctive design, that remain forerunners of technical evolution in our sector. This award gives new impetus to our passion: racing towards the future but knowing how to brake.”
The Brembo Formula E brake caliper is the result of Brembo's 40-year experience in motorsport, at the service of innovation. Constantly aware of new trends in the automotive world, Brembo has always believed and invested in its presence in the world’s main electric car championship. It did so by developing a unique braking system: the caliper that won the ADI Compasso d’Oro is a four-piston aluminium alloy monobloc caliper that combines performance and lightness with uncompromising shape. It is an industrial product that even under extreme competitive conditions never loses its characteristics, dynamic and sporty aesthetics. It is in line with the stylish electric cars for which it was created.
The Formula E caliper earned Brembo its second ADI Compasso d’Oro, with the first one awarded in 2004 for the Brembo CCM, the carbon ceramic braking system for road cars.
Items distinguished by the Compasso d’Oro and Honourable Mention are included in the ADI Compasso d’Oro Collection and were declared of ‘exceptional artistic and historical interest’ by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities on 22 April 2004.
Brembo is the official supplier of the FIA Formula E World Championship through Spark Racing Technology.
