NIO starts 2019 with new Director of Exterior Design

• Oliver Samson is new Director of Exterior Design at NIO as of 01.01.2019
• Oliver previously worked as Creative Director for Daimler AG in California
• Juho Suh has been appointed Head of the NIO Shanghai Automotive Design Studio

The design centre of the electric car manufacturer NIO, based in Munich, is starting 2019 with a change in management. Oliver Samson joined the team as the new Director of Exterior Design on 1 January 2019. Born in Germany, Oliver Samson has been Creative Director at Daimler AG’s Advanced Design Studio in California since 2014, where he worked on projects such as the Mercedes Vision Car Maybach 6. Previously he held Teamleader and Senior Exterior Designer roles at the company’s Advanced Design Studio in Sindelfingen, Germany, shaping models including the Mercedes GT Vision Gran Turismo. Samson also spent four years as Exterior Designer at Hyundai & Kia Motor GmbH in Germany. He studied at the University of Applied Science in Pforzheim, Germany, where he gained a Diploma in Transportation Design.

In Munich, Samson now reports directly to Vice President of Design, Kris Tomasson, to further develop the design DNA of NIO. The former Director of Exterior Design, Juho Suh, is now in charge of the NIO Automotive Design Studio in Shanghai.
