From 20 to 27 September, Brembo will be exhibiting the Electric Drum in Hat (EDIH) on its stand at the 67th IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition, the important German trade show for commercial vehicles.
The Electric Drum in Hat is a “two-servo” brake with a specific electromechanical actuator designed to guarantee parking of commercial vehicles weighing up to 8 tonnes.
Patented by Brembo, the electromechanical actuator is a flagship achievement of the company’s research, development and testing of commercial vehicle braking systems. These systems are the result of continuous investment in research and development – amounting to 5% of company turnover – which leads to finding new mobility solutions for the future.
The integration of the vehicle electronic stability control system (ESC) guarantees the same functionalities as the ECS brake caliper. In fact, thanks to this technology, assistance is available for uphill starts and vehicle slip prevention, as well as manual/automatic parking brake release.
The system ensures safe parking even when the brake discs are hot. It can also be used as an emergency brake.
Careful attention to the design of the Brembo electromechanical actuator has resulted in a product that ensures braking torque for parking, by compensating for the loss of force caused by the dual-servo. In addition, it eliminates residual braking torque under any parking conditions by controlling the EDIH lever position.
Brembo's commitment to every detail is also shown in the further advantages offered in the event of failure of the EPB system. The EDIH allows movement of the commercial vehicle through the manual release of the actuator, as well as limited parking on a hill through the operation of a single actuator.
